Week 1 Preview: Men's Soccer

The eight teams of the Big West Men's soccer are ready to roll, including associate new-comers the Sacramento State Hornets.  The season has changed this year as the schools will play a ten-game conference season: two games against each team within their division (there is a North division and a South division) and one game against each team in the opposite division.

UCSB and UCI start the season ranked in the preseason polls: UCSB is ranked No. 9 in College Soccer News and No. 11 in the NSCAA Poll, while UCI is ranked No. 15/No. 13 respectively.

Play opens up tomorrow as the Highlanders open up in Poughskeepie, NY to face Marist at 4 PM, Northridge faces Portland at 4:30 PM in the first game of the Fullerton tournament, Cal Poly travels to the Emerald City to square off against Seattle at 5 PM, UNLV plays UCD at 5 PM as well.  The evening games include two games at 7 PM: American at Fullerton (also part of the Fullerton Tournament) and Sac State visits Corvallis for a match versus Oregon State, and one game at 7:30 as UCI plays USD.

Sunday and Monday's matches conclude an exciting weekend as UCR travels south to New Rochelle, NY to play IONA at 10 AM, Northridge finishes their tournament play against American at 11:30 AM, Cal Poly travels a few miles to play Washington after Seattle at 1 PM, the Titans finish their tournament against Portland at 2 PM and UCSB starts their season against LMU at 3 PM.  Monday's match includes UCD travelling a couple hours south to play CSU Bakersfield at 7 PM.
