2012 Week 3 Results

This post is coming very late due to work circumstances.  Expect a men's soccer and a volleyball preview today as there are matches tonight.  With that being said let's get to it:

Men's Soccer Recap:
Northridge's hot start came to a crashing halt, as they lost two straight games on the East Coast against Georgetown and Loyola (MD).  UCSB managed to stay undefeated surviving a scare from Oregon State, drawing 2-2, then man-handling Gonzaga 3-0.  Likewise, UCI and UCR both swept their opponents at the UCI Invitational to both stay undefeated, the Highlanders off to their best start in Div I history.  Sacramento State beat USD in overtime then went to Moraga and drew Saint Mary's.  UCD also continued their undefeated streak with 2 draws to Air Force and Denver.  Finally, Fullerton fell to Cornell, but beat UNLV on Sunday in overtime.

Women's Soccer Recap:
LBSU fell to BYU last Thursday, then responded by beating Michigan to retain their Top 25 ranking.  Northridge also beat Michigan in their lone match of the weekend, while Fullerton fell to Oregon State in their only match.  Pacific continues to search for their first win of the season, getting shutout by San Jose State and Boston College.  Cal Poly lost to Cal 4-1, while Hawaii won both their weekend games against Drexel and BYU-Hawaii.  UCSB drew their only match, while UCD won theirs.  UCR drew NMSU and beat UTEP in the UCR tournament, and UCI lost to Oregon and beat Oregon State this past weekend.

Women's Volleyball Recap:
At the UCI Invitational, UCI went 1-2 with their only win coming against Colgate; they also dropped a non-invitational match to LMU.  In Spokane, UCR started strong sweeping Eastern Washington, but then dropped the last two matches against Gonzaga and South Dakota State.  Fullerton dropped both of their matches in the Pepperdine Tournament (however beat Sacred Heart in Santa Barbara), while UCSB had a successful home tournament, only losing to UCLA.  The LBSU Mizuno Classic featured two Big West teams, LBSU and Northridge: LBSU won one and lost two while Northridge went 1-1 (Northridge finished their weekend with a 3-1 victory over Idaho).  Pacific stayed perfect after a 3-match sweep at the Community Bankers Classic, while Hawaii started strong but was upset on the last day of the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.  UCD got swept in their own invitational.  Cal Poly was not in tournament play, but beat Idaho 3-2 and dropped a 3-0 decision to Northeastern.  On a final note, UCSB began a five match road-trip with a 3-1 win over Portland State last night.

And now, it's time for everyone's favorite part:
