2012 Week 4 Results

Men's Soccer:
What a week it was for the Big West, specifically for UCR.  The men's team cracked the Top 25 for the first time in school's history.  In the meantime, UCSB remained in the top 10, and UCI dropped to No. 16/NR in the Soccer America and NSCAA Polls.  Thus far, the Big West holds a 19-15-6 record in non-conference play.  UCSB won their only match last week, as did UCR.  UCI dropped 2 straight games to Pac-12 opponents, including No. 14 UCLA, as did Fullerton.  Sacramento State went 1-1, while Cal Poly also won their only match.  Finally, Northridge and UCD dropped their only matches this past week.

Women's Soccer:
The Big West continued to show consistency and poise in non-conference play as some teams battled with some big names.  Fullerton fell in a close battle to No. 1/2 Florida State, but then rebounded with a win against Creighton.  No. 14/23 Texas A&M defeated No. 20/NR LBSU, before the 49ers took down North Texas on a Nadia Link hat trick performance.  UCI split the Denver Invitational while Hawaii won and drew their hosted competition.  UCD fell to Cal in double overtime while Pacific beat Oregon in their only matches this week.  Cal Poly lost twice and Northridge drew twice against USC and Tennessee.  Finally, UCSB lost to Oregon State before beating Bakersfield while UCR won against SJSU and tied Fresno State.

Women's Volleyball:
After a slew of tournaments this past week, the Big West stands at 47-44 on the season.  UCSB went 2-3 over the course of the week, while Fullerton had a good showing in the Wolfpack Invitational, going 2-1.  Northridge went 3-1 starting from last Monday, and UCI also went 2-1 in the Boise State Invitational.  Cal Poly couldn't manage a win in the USC Classic, while Pacific finally managed their first loss of the season to No. 8 Stanford.  UCD and UCR went winless in both of their tournaments while LBSU split their matches in the Washington Invitational.  Finally, Hawaii went 2-1 in their invitational, losing to No. 3 UCLA.

The names are in, so lets see who won the Big West Confidential Awards:

Big West Confidential Team of the WeekUCR's Men's Soccer, who are now ranked for the first time in program history (we promise, another team will get this award, but in the meantime, this is pretty damn historic).
Big West Confidential Offensive Player of the Week: LBSU's Nadia Link, who single-handily defeated North Texas, with a hat-trick in a 3-2 win.
Big West Confidential Defensive Player of the Week: Northridge's Cynthia Jacobo, who placed 5th in the all-time Big West single game saves record, with 15 against USC.

Awards in bold mean unanimous decision.
