Good Morning! If anyone was paying attention yesterday, the Big West might have some potential big news coming up...but we won't know until next week, at least. Here are some links:
Big West Baseball goes 0-fer in Tuesday's mid-week action
UC Davis fell to Nevada 9-8 after coming back from an 8-2 deficit, USF beat Pacific 5-2 and Anteaters lost to USD 4-1, ending their 7-game win streak.
Big West sends two teams to the NCAA Regionals
Conference champs UCD enters the Stanford Regional as a No. 13 seed and LBSU enters the Athens Regional as a No. 7 seed (Athens, Georgia).
ESPN3 to broadcast the LBSU-Pacific Doubleheader
Do I really need to tell you to go watch?
No. 23 Aggies enter NCAA Regionals as a No. 8 seed in West Regional
The West Regional is in Erie, Colorado. Top 8 teams of each regional qualify for the national finals at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
Hawaii might be fine with BSU's inclusion because of travel subsides issue (Subscription Access)
Apparently, their travel subsidy doesn't figure for any new Big West teams joining. This won't have any effect on a final decision, but it is interesting nonetheless.
As a final note, this is my own opinion: if any of you caught the "Ban College Football" debate, both sides were obscenely off. It resolves nothing, and it solves nothing. Bissinger and Gladwell went more on an anti-football propaganda, while Green (who did fairly well) and Whitlock provided poor arguments for keeping football. I would like those 2 hours of my life back after hearing such stupidity, thank you.
A blog dedicated to the Big West Conference: where sitting on the beach thinking about sports just isn't good enough.

Morning Links 5/8/12
With the seasons winding down, there aren't many recap links left, so we'll be bringing you links on constant conference expansion that could have to do with the Big West.
Dirtbags finish the sweep against LMU
With a 4-run bottom of the 8th, LBSU held on for a 7-5 win over the Lions.
Cal State holds one game lead entering this weekend's action
Cal State Fullerton to be specific. The No. 8 Titans, while dominating the competition only have a slim lead over the Dirtbags. UCI is also in the hunt, but there will have to be some losing at the top for them to win the conference.
Because I still can't help but laugh at this very real possible situation
Click for entertainment! Don't worry, it's safe for work, just not safe for the WAC
Big West meetings to discuss conference-y things
We'll know a lot more probably by the end of this week, but I suspect conference expansion is in there (scratch that: I wasn't patient, so I had to ask!). All I got as an answer was to follow the Big West Conference's twitter feed, so that's what I'm doing! Regardless of what happens in this week's meeting, you have to feel pretty confident that our AD's and Conference Officials are doing the right thing, so far they've made nothing but moves that have benefited the Big West, unlike a certain conference commissioner on the east coast who's not in his position anymore...

Morning Links 5/7/12
With only one weekend left of regular season in softball and 3 weeks left of baseball, things are heating up in the Big West.
Baseball series recaps
No. 8 Fullerton swept the Tigers with a 10-0 win on Sunday, UC Davis won the series against Cal Poly with a 5-4 win, UCR halted their 5-game Big West skid with a 3-1 win over CSU Northridge, Dirtbags have taken the series in a three game series as they won 5-4 yesterday over LMU and will go for the sweep tonight and UCI swept UCSB with a 5-4 victory on Sunday.
Softball recaps
UCR set a Division I program record for wins yesterday by beating CSU Northridge for their 23rd win of the season, Taylor Petty tossed a one-hit shutout as LBSU dominated CSU Fullerton 11-0 and UCSB mercy ruled Cal Poly on Sunday for the sweep.
Track and Field Championship results through one weekend
Because I know absolutely nothing about track and field, from looking at the scores, it appears that in the Men's decathlon competition, UCSB's JR team has a strong lead, and in the Women's heptathlon, Long Beach's SR team has the lead. Scores are here if someone wants to correct me in all my mistaken glory.
Baseball and Softball standings are after the jump:

Morning Links 5/4/12
Happy Friday! Not many BW links, therefore, more time to goof around:
Big West Track and Field Championships will be in Irvine this year
It will take place over the course of two weekends: today and tomorrow, and next weekend on the 11th and 12th. If you live in the area, go attend!
LBSU alumni Jered Weaver throws no-no against Twins
This is a couple days old, however still noteworthy. Baseball is the sport of the Big West and they continue to prove it at a professional level.
Have anything interesting to share? Comment below!

Morning Links 5/3/12
It's been awhile since I've done Thursday links...lucky for you all, I was able to get up this early.
Baseball recaps
UCR avenged a 10-1 loss on Tuesday to beat UNLV 5-2 on Wednesday, in the meantime, UCD fell to Fresno State 11-4.
Fullerton falls to SDSU in 6, 12-4
After 2 big, 6 run innings, the game was called. The plus side was that Eliza Crawford hit her first HR of the season, a 3-dinger.
Conference expansion with potential implications
SJSU and Utah State (both former Big West teams) are officially joining the Mountain West. This leaves Idaho and New Mexico as the only football teams left in the WAC, with Denver, Seattle and Boise State still there for non-football sports at the moment. The big question once again is would the Big West take any of these teams for a set price?
ed. note: New Mexico State now in sights by the Sun Belt (via hyah)
What do you think? Are you tired of conference realignment? Should the Big West harbor neglected teams who aren't wanted by anybody else? Would SDSU have enough power to bring their football travel partner to a new conference?
I'll leave you with this .gif, a very good representation of the WAC: hint, they are Rome and the West

Morning Links 5/2/12
If you're living in Southern California right now, you are experiencing a strange phenomenon: rain.
Therefore, the lullaby finally applies to us:
Rain, rain, go away.
Come again another day.
Here's some links:
Anteaters are a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament
They'll play No. 5 seed LMU in the first round of the tournament on May 11 at 8:15 pm. The interactive bracket can be found here.
UC Davis wins second consecutive Big West Title
Pacific's Alex Edfort won the individual championship with a final score of 203. The Aggies now await their selection on May 7th.
Men's Tennis Bracket is set, with Cal Poly facing Texas Tech in the first round
Can the Mustangs pull the win out against the Red Raiders? Stay tuned...
LBSU women to face Arkansas in the opening round
If they manage to beat Arky, they could be up against No. 1 UCLA in the second round.
Baseball recaps
Cal Poly's Jimmy Allen homered to beat Pepperdine in the 10th inning, Titans beat USC 4-2, Trentacosta dominated in his first career start as UCI beat SDSU 6-2, UCR got hammered by UNLV 10-1, and the Dirtbags drop one against No. 11 UCLA 2-1.

Morning Links 5/1/12
IT'S THE FIRST OF MAY! Summer is right around the corner, can you feel it? I can...mainly because it's gotten a lot warmer, but also because football conference expansion is continuing and the Big West keeps coming up. If this trend looks to continue, it would be a great opportunity for the Board of Directors (hint hint...if any of you actually read blogs) to start looking into some lucrative TV contracts to bring more money and revenue. You can also potentially get some very big names too (outside of Hawaii and SDSU). Onto Links:
Pacific unable to hold lead, UCDavis leads after two rounds for Men's Golf tourney
As I write this, the final round is underway. For live stats, follow here. Here is the standings after two rounds:
Boise State might try again to get into the BWC for non-revenue sports
They were turned down from both the BWC and WCC when they originally signed up for the Big East, BWC because it's California-heavy, WCC because they are full of private institutions. With Pacific going to the WCC, can the BWC set a price high enough that BSU (who will have access to a lot more money than any current BWC school) will say okay?
The WAC is Dead
Great article by Jeremy of the MWCConnection and The Skip Shot. While this is not a BWC article, once again it could have BWC implications. For now, we sit back and watch the destruction of one of the oldest conferences because of greed.
What do you think? Should the Big West go for some of the bigger named teams to kill the WAC effectively? The only teams left after this round of carnage will be University of Seattle (whom the WCC could pick up...again), University of Denver (which would make absolutely no sense), Idaho, NMSU and Boise State. NMSU might get back into the MWC because of their ties with UNM, but no guarantees. Idaho has an open slot in the Big Sky for all sports, but will they be too prideful to drop a division? And now, everyone knows my opinion of whether or not BSU should be in the Big West...while it takes away the California-centric aspect, it's just another big name who could bring in other big names for non-conference play.
