Men's Soccer #3 UCSB vs. CSU Fullerton
On Sunday (9/30) #3 took on the rather underwhelming CSU Fullerton. With small chances at a dramatic upset Fullerton decided to work with what they had and play their entire squad on defense while only making several attempts to make a break and attempt a shot (most of which weren't very threatening at all). This tactic would ultimately mesh with UCSB's fatigue from playing away games and having every team give their all in hopes of upsetting the #3 national contender. After a long 110 minutes both teams came out of the game scoreless (0-0). A key point in the match, however, was when UCSB defender Daniel Welsh was shown a yellow card and then a red card for nothing more than speaking. This may technically be considered dissent in the game but it was uncalled for and a referee should not take it into his own hands to give a team a man disadvantage for simply having his feelings hurt.UCSB returns to action next Friday against Irvine which has been having quite a contrasting season to last year when they won the Big West title from UCSB.
Very good summary of what actually happened. Sad to see teams like Fullerton play like this. Makes me think of the program as a "hackers team."
ReplyDeleteIt's like watching 120 minutes of "Hack-a-Shaq" basketball...Is that really basketball? Plus home-cook refereeing is just over-the-top IMHO.
Next time this shit happens, Vom Steeg should just pass the ball on their own 1/3 of the field take the draw and rest his team for the next "real soccer" game. Why risk getting hurt by a bunch of hackers whom refuse to play the game correctly?
