With a late start due to the first match going to 5 sets, the sixth ranked Hawaii Rainbow Wahine were still fired up after looking slow the night before. The Wahine sweep the Bears 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Once again Emily Hartong had an outstanding night "crushing the coconut!"with 18 kills, 7 digs, and a block. Also leading the way for the Wahine was Jane Croson with 11 kills, 7 digs, and an ace. It was a see-saw battle for set one. There were several lead changes until the Wahine pulled away after leading 12-11. In set two it was a bit easier for Hawaii when they hit .406 with only 4 errors in that set. Set three was a battle in the early stages but the Wahine pulled ahead late in that set with a 9 to 3 run to finish off the Bears and bid them Aloha into the Manoa night.
Laura Jones had 6 kills for the Bears. The team hit .089 for the match. Hawaii hit .372.
Sunday's match will be earlier than most matches this season due to the holiday weekend.
Hawaii will take on a struggling #25 California team that has lost two straight in this tournament.
Cal lost to San Francisco earlier today in five sets.
It will be Baylor vs. San Francisco at 3pm HST and Hawaii vs. California at 5pm HST.
