Men's Soccer:
How about them Highlanders? UCR took down a North Florida team 5-0 (a game which I went to and stood in the Hylander Hype section) and finished off Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday. UCSB also continued their dominance in non-conference play, destroying USD and Seattle. Cal Poly also won twice as did Northridge. UCD split their games in the SMU Classic, as did Fullerton in the UNLV Nike Invitational. UCI split their games in the TLC Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Lobo Invitational (great sponsor, New Mexico!) and Sacramento State dropped two straight to a ranked Bakersfield and San Jose State.
Women's Soccer:
At the Fullerton Tournament, LBSU and Fullerton both lost to Texas Tech and beat Army. UCI split their games at the UCLA Invitational and UCD dropped two at the Saint Mary's Tournament. Cal Poly dropped their only game to BYU as did Pacific, who lost to Colorado College. Hawaii dropped two to EWU and Washington State, while UCR lost to San Francisco and UCSB won against Weber State.
Women's Volleyball:
It was a busy weekend for volleyball athletes as all the schools went to various tournaments before the beginning of conference play, which starts this week. Northridge swept their teams in the Rice Invitational as did Pacific in the Marquette Invitational. UCI went 1-2 in the Arizona Invitational and Cal Poly got swept in the Utah Classic. UCD took 2 of 3 in the Butler Invitational, while Fullerton could only manage one win in their home invitational. Finally, LBSU went 2-1 in the Bradley Invitational as did UCR in the Sheraton Classic in Tempe. Hawaii volleyball did not play this weekend.
It's time to hand out our weekly awards. Remember while these are our opinions, feel free to make suggestions in the comments below:
Big West Confidential Team of the Week: Brandon: UCSB's men's soccer team
Chris: My vote goes to a very underrated Pacific Volleyball team, who is 11-1 before conference play, with a lone loss to No. 8 Stanford.
