Former UC Davis swimmer Scott Weltz made the finals of the men's 200 m breaststroke, but finished fifth in the finals, just missing out on a medal by 7/10 of a second. After falling to last place after the first 50 m, Weltz paced himself until the last 50, where he frantically worked his way to fifth but couldn't finish it out to get the bronze. As a bragging note though, he did beat out his fellow teammate Clark Burckle. Hungarian Daniel Gyurta, not only won the gold, but also set a world record and outside of silver medalist Michael Jamison (GBR), no one else was within a timed second of him.
Congratulations to Scott on a job well done at the Olympics.
